-Baron and Baroness-
Greetings unto the populace! Fool's revel is almost here and We have it on very good
authority that much silliness and frivolity will take place.
It is demo season.
Please,
if you are able, support the demos that are coming up.
They are a good source of fun,
and who knows, you may inspire the future King of the West.
We would also like to say good luck to those in the election to determine Our Heirs.
We know
whom ever is chosen will do their utmost to advance the prosperity of out beloved Rivenoak.
Long Live Rivenoak!
Yours in humble Service,
Rowan and Grania
And the candidates for the Baronial Election are ( drum roll ) :
Coronado and Jehnene, Gwyn and Lori, & Kettil!

- SIR BJORN'S STICK TALK -
So here we are in spring. Birds are singing, the whole town is blooming and greening,
Easter is behind us, and war and tournaments ahead of us! Time to think about the future.
A former Rivenoak boy, Jarl Sir Thorfinn the Cruel, will step up as our King at Beltane;
when I first met him, he was just another college runt with freckles and long hair.
Now when I fight him, it's usually one of those two-hit fights: him hitting me,
and me hitting the ground.
How does that happen? One day at a time, my armored and nearly-armored comrades.
Going to practice and putting on your armor even when you don't feel like it, or the weather
doesn't agree with you. Spending a little time every day on your fighting, whether
it's swinging
at the pell, a brisk walk around the block, or just practicing keeping your back straight
and your shield arm across your body.
His Royal Highness used to tell me that in order to learn range, he carried a yard stick with him everywhere he went at work. He did things with that ruler like turning lights on and off, pressing elevator buttons, and any other task he could improvise so he'd know exactly how far away things looked when he was holding something thirty-six inches long in his hand. It seems to have paid off.
Thorfinn helped me build my first pell in my backyard, and taught me the "century drill" that
I try to teach at most practices: 100 blows on the pell for 100 days in a row, and if you miss
one day, you start over. About a year (and 35,000 or so whacks on the pell) later, I was asked
to join the Order of Chivalry of our Kingdom.
It can happen, friends; but training and stick-to-it-iveness are the only way.
It's a pleasure to fight with you all, so let's swing stick harder and more often this year.
Yours in Service,
Sir Bjorn Jorsalfar of Bearhaven, OL
